IWC grandly launches digital display mechanical watch

Schaffhausen, January 15, 2018-IWC Schaffhausen launched three limited editions of the brand’s 150th anniversary special edition series at the Geneva International Haute Horlogerie (SIHH). (Pallweber) “Special edition watch with jumping time numerals. This is the first time that IWC has installed the hour and minute digital display on the watch. As early as 1884, watch factories used the time display in pocket watches in this revolutionary way at the time.

The Pallweber pocket watch displays the hours and minutes in large numbers on a rotating display disc. However, such an innovative time display seemed too avant-garde at the time: this watch was a hit for a while, but it faded out of people’s sight in the following years. On the occasion of celebrating the brand anniversary, IWC pays special tribute to the replica IWC Watches pioneering spirit of Schaffhausen watchmakers with the special edition of the 150th anniversary of IWC “Pallweber” (model: 5050). In order to inherit the Pallweber pocket watch with a long history and pay tribute to Mr. F. A. Jones, the founder of IWC, who was born in the United States, the digital display window is marked with “Hours” and “Minutes”. The platinum version is limited to 25 pieces, the red gold version is limited to replica iwc portofino 250 pieces, and the steel version is limited to 500 pieces:

–Platinum case, white dial, lacquered finish, blue display disc, blue second hand (model: IW505001)
–18K red gold case, white dial, lacquer finish, white display disc, blue second hand (model: IW505002)
–Stainless steel case, blue dial, lacquered finish, white display disc, rhodium-plated second hand (model: IW505003)

In order to create the IWC 94200 self-made movement, the watch designer has developed a patented new solution to match the digital display with high technical requirements. Previous Pallweber pocket watch discs were driven by split gears. The one-minute disc of this movement is powered by a separate train system with a proprietary barrel. The release mechanism connected to the watch’s own wheel system is released every 60 seconds and then re-locked. After 10 minutes, the one-minute disc will drive the ten-minute disc and switch to the next position. Every 60 minutes, the hour wheel will jump to the next hour digit. The power of the individual wheel system on the display panel will not affect the conventional wheel system, ensuring precise operation and a high 60-hour power reserve. Like previous Pallweber pocket watches, the indicator disc is driven by a linkage mechanism with a star wheel (Geneva drive), which can be moved forward or backward relatively easily through the crown.
